Between the years 1965 - 1989, Ferdinand Marcos becoming President was a harsh experience for the Philippines because he did not responsibly handle his presidential duties. He instead bankrupted the Philippines, declared Martial Law under Proclamation 1081, and suspended Filipino civil rights. This negatively affected the Philippines. His abuse of power led to the People Power Revolution which forced him to give up his presidency.
