Struggling Filipinos
As a nation, the Philippines was not well respected by other countries. Throughout history, the Philippines has been mistreated by countries such as Spain (1521 - 1898) and Japan (1898 - 1946). The Philippine Congress met enormous problems because the land was devastated by the World War II. The economy was destroyed and the country was torn by political warfare and crime. On July 4, 1946, the Republic of the Philippines was established. The Americans guided the Philippines to stand on its feet by helping them form its government since they were a protectorate of America. However, the young government struggled to repair the damages caused during World War II. After years of problems, a new Filipino leader stepped forward.
