On September 20, 1935, a life-changing event happened. The day after Julio Nalundasan defeated Mariano Marcos (Father of Ferdinand Marcos) for a seat in the National Assembly, Nalundasan was shot and killed in his home. Ferdinand Marcos and his brother-in-law were arrested and tried for this 1935 political murder. They were found guilty. While locked up in prison, Marcos studied and passed his bar exam. After going through the Justice System in the Philippines, Marcos wanted fair treatment and improvement for the Filipino people thus assuring it would be a safer place. He promised to develop the Philippines, so he worked hard to gain experience.

From 1946 - 1947, Marcos was a technical assistant to Manuel Roxas who was a political leader and President from 1963-1965. After being an assistant, Marcos went on to become a member of the Representatives (1949-1959). In 1965, Marcos was a prominent member of the Liberal Party. He ran as the Nationalist Party candidate for President against Diosado Macapagal. Marcos won and started his Presidency on December 30, 1965.
